Release History & Notes
**Early circulation and promotional pressings (1997)**
Evidence suggests that *Stone Cold / Hold On* was circulating on vinyl as early as 1997. Specialist record retailer Hard To Find Records documents a UK promotional 12-inch from that year, carrying catalogue number GC001 on the Groove Chronicles label.
White-label test pressings have also been documented, including copies with handwritten identification. These early variations reflect the promotional and specialist vinyl circulation associated with underground UK Garage during the late 1990s.
**1998 vinyl release**
The release is also catalogued as a 1998 UK 12-inch on Groove Chronicles, catalogue number GC001. Documented variations include printed-label and silver-label editions.
The relationship between the 1997 promotional copies and the 1998 editions has not been conclusively established, so the earlier copies should not automatically be classified as first pressings.
**Later history**
*Stone Cold* became one of Groove Chronicles' best-known productions, recognised for its stripped-back two-step rhythm, prominent bassline and chopped R&B vocal sampling.
In September 2016, Noodles' DPR Recordings made the original mixes of *Stone Cold* and *Hold On* available digitally, preserving both recordings for a new generation of listeners.
